The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in early Friday's accident near Awasi, Kisumu County.

The 1:30 am crash involving an Eldoret Express bus and a truck happened at Pala area along the Kisumu - Kericho Highway, claiming the lives of 13 persons.

In a tweet Friday morning, the Orange party expressed its sorrow due to the loss of lives, as well as quick recovery to more travellers who were injured in the accident.

"Our condolences to family, friends and relatives of the victims of the Awasi bus accident last night involving an Eldoret Express bus and a truck. We pray for God’s fortitude during this moment of grief. To the injured, we pray for their quick recovery," the party wrote.

Kisumu County Police Boss Benson Maweu confirmed the accident and deaths, saying that of the dead were 12 adults and a child.

Maweu noted that the bus that was headed to Nairobi from Siaya and had picked up more passengers in Kisumu.

He said that the accident happened after the bus driver while attempting to overtake another vehicle, crashed head-on with the oncoming truck.

The injured were taken to various hospitals around the area for medical attention.
