Former presidential candidate and renowned scholar Prof James Ole Kiyiapi has faulted the arrest of Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
In a tweet on Wednesday, the former Moi University don branded the arrest as undemocratic and would on backfire.
In his tweet, Prof Kiyiapi appeared to suggest that the intention of the apprehension of the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator was aimed at containing the Kiharu MP.
The claims carried in the tweet were consistent with Nyoro's who claimed that his arrest was aimed at coercing him to take a certain political direction.
"Arrresting, harassing or appearing to contain the Kiharu MP, Ndindi Nyoro is not only undemocratic but achieves the opposite effect: more publicity and popularity. Let him freely express his political views and decide on his path of destiny, " Prof Kiyiapi's tweet read.
The avowed DP Ruto-backing lawmaker was taken into police custody this week and arraigned in court on charges of causing disorder and resisting arrest.
He was however released on a free bond.
Allies of the deputy president have accused the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government Karanja Kibicho of abusing his power.
They claimed that the Kiharu MP's arrest had a political motive.
Kibicho has, by and large, avoided responding to the claims.
