What Kenyans who laughed to his jokes did not know is that behind the public facade, was a man battling the demons of alcohol addiction.

In an interview with Tuko, which was shared on YouTube on Friday, the comedian said that he consumed huge amounts of alcohol until he became addicted to it.

He could not do a show without taking a swig of an alcoholic beverage.

At night he would wake up just to quench his thirst for alcohol.

The more he drunk the more his thirst grew even more intense.

It got to a point where he started stuff in his house so that he could have money to buy alcohol.

"I used to sell things so that I could drink alcohol. I would sell the phone, my television set, (Nilikuwa nakunywa vitu Bwana, simu na kunywa, TV nakunywa, "he said.

"Addiction is a disease my friend. It is a disease. I remember waking up at 4 am just to go out to look for alcohol (Mimi nakumbuka naamka mpaka saa kumi naenda kutafuta makali)," he added

That life of alcoholism is now behind him as he battles to stay clean.

He says that if he beat alcohol addiction then those battling with the issue should have hope that they too can kick alcoholism.
