While taking cold shower during hot summer days can feel good, it can expose you to certain medical problems.

In some people, cold showers  can worsen an existing  condition. 

Helen L Glassberg, a cardiovascular specialist explains the risks linked to a cold shower. 

One should steer clear of taking cold showers when in the following conditions; 

1. After drinking red wine

Taking a cold a shower after imbibing red wine could cause more harm than good. Wine interferes with liver functions and impede the production of glycogen known for storing sugar.

The release of glycogen could be inhibited when showering and this often results in lightheadedness, fatigue and loss of consciousness due to low blood sugar. 

2. With a high temperature (38°c or 100°F)

When your body's temperature is higher than the normal, you're likely to experience some serious health complications. The rate of your calorie consumption increases in the body. When you take shower while on this state, fatigue is the aftermath. 

3.  After a period of hard work

Try as much as possible to avoid cold shower when you are half dead. Try unwinding first, catch your breath first before dashing into that bathroom. Cases of people becoming unconscious while taking cold shower have been on the rise. Coldwater interferes with blood circulation by restricting the blood vessels.

 4. When hungry

When ravenous, you are advised to avoid taking cold shower; reason being, the symptoms of low blood sugar may strike you.
