Locals of Mokomoni in Borabu North, Nyamira County are yet to come to terms after a 1-year-old baby girl died on Monday evening while she was being fed with porridge.
It is alleged that Victor Osoro was feeding his daughter Teresa Kerubo porridge when she collapsed and died.
"Osoro was left to take care of the baby by his wife who went to a market. The baby started crying and her father decided to feed her with porridge," said area assistant chief Fred Babu.
The administrator said Mr. Osoro was feeding the child with porridge while blocking her nose something that prompted to her death.
"Osoro was using the old style feeding his daughter and he is not familiar with the style. He held the baby's nose while feeding her and this must have precipitated to the sudden death," he noted.
The chief called on parents not to use traditional methods when feeding their young children with porridge and other foods to curb unnecessary deaths.
He said the deceased body was taken to Nyamira County hospital morgue awaiting burial.
