Chief Justice David Maraga will after all be accorded VIP treatment on roads and major highways following the latest directive by Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.
On Wednesday, Mutyambai had released a list that omitted the office of the President of Supreme Court, a move that could have sparked controversy.
"In light of streamlining traffic flow in major cities, I hereby direct guidelines concerning entitlement and privileges on clearance of vehicles for VIP on roads and highways," read part of the statement, in which CJ's office was not included.
President, Deputy President, First Lady, Ministers Interior, Foreign Affairs, Defense and PS Interior were in the first category. Chief of Defense Forces, Service Commanders, IG, deputy IGs were in the second category.
The Speakers of National Assembly and Senate and Majority Leader were in third category while retired Presidents and Prime Minister were in forth.
But on Thursday, IG Mutyambai released another version that included Chief Justice and Attorney General, who had been omitted despite having been getting the VIP treatment.
"Any Government vehicle found violating traffic regulations especially those overlapping, the driver shall be arrested and charged in accordance to the law.The directive takes place with immediate effect," Mutyambai said in a statement, Thursday.
However, former Vice Presidents will have to maneuver with ordinary people unless they make a special application to officer in charge of traffic in a given day when they need fast movements along major towns.
