Speaking during an interview with Milele FM on Tuesday, the outspoken Senator said that he initiated the truce between the two leaders when he released Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino when he was being attacked by Jubilee members.

He then added that after Babu’s release, it did not take a month before the NASA leader and the President decided to work together to promote unity and peace among Kenyans.

“Mimi ndio nililaunch handshake vile nilitioa Babu Owino kwa cell akipigwa na watu wa chama yangu. Nikawaambia siasa za chuki zinaisha. And in less than a month after that Raila Odinga na Uhuru wakafanya handshake (I was the one who launched the handshake when I release Babu Owino from the cell when he was being fought by my party members. And I told them that divisive politics is over. And in less than a month Raila and Uhuru did the handshake),” said Sakaja.

Sakaja also said that he was voted for by all parties because he avoided dirty politics during the campaign season.

“Na mimi nilipigiwa kura na all parties. Kura ya Jubilee haikuwa nyingi kuliko ya NASA. Raila alishinda Uhuru but mimi nilishinda Raila nikashinda Uhuru because I got vote ya Jubilee na ya NASA (Even though Raila got more votes than Uhuru in Nairobi county, I had the highest number of votes than him because I was voted for by both parties),” noted Sakaja.
