The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Ochillo Ayacko has received a major boost ahead of the upcoming Migori senatorial by-election.
This is after he held a successful fundraiser on Wednesday night which was well attended by prominent politicians and businessmen.
In an event held at a city hotel, the leaders contributed handsomely to enable Ayacko to collect millions meant for campaigns which start officially on Friday, September 7, 2018.
Among those who graced the function include ODM party leader Raila Odinga and party director of elections and Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed.
Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rongo Member of Parliament Paul Abuor were also present.
Raila, who gave Sh1 million, was among major contributors towards the campaigns for the former Sports Cabinet Minister.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's contribution of Sh500,000 was delivered by the former Prime Minister.
Raila said President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party, which Sonko belongs to, had decided to boycott the poll in favour of Ayacko.
"As we all know there is no Jubilee candidate in this election so they are all supporting ODM," he remarked.
Junet expressed confidence that the ODM candidate will take over the seat left vacant following the sudden death of former Senator Ben Okello in June.
"To my friend the Hon. Ochillo Ayacko, welcome to the Senate of the Republic of Kenya," he said.
Ayacko is facing stiff competition from former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno who is vying on the National Liberal Party ticket.
