Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale among other Jubilee party leaders camped in Kibra Constituency to drum up support for their preferred candidate cum former Harambee Stars forward McDonald Mariga.
Speaking to the Kibra residents on Sunday, which was the last day for running campaigns for the seat which was left vacant after the death of the then Kibra lawmaker Ken Okoth, the outspoken legislator refuted claims being bandied in some quarters that the Kibra parliamentary race is a proxy war between veteran opposition and ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.
Rather, he insisted that the contest was between McDonald Mariga (the Jubilee candidate) and the ODM candidate Imran Okoth.
"Na mimi nawaambia watu ya Kibra, hii mashindano ni kati ya Mariga na huyo Okoth. (I want to tell the people of Kibra that this contest is about Mariga and Okoth. ), " the Garissa Township Member of Parliament said.
"Mashindano ya Raila na Ruto itakuja 2022 (The contest between Raila and Ruto will come in 2022)," The Garissa Township lawmaker went on to say.
McDonald Mariga who is rumored to be fueled by the deputy president is said to be a tool to test the popularity of the DP in Kibra which is believed to be Raila's political bedrock.
The former Inter Milan star has strongly rejected the notion that he is a project, saying that he reached the decision to run for the seat personally and after consultations with members of his family.
