Siaya Senator James Orengo has said that his recent remarks on the proposed constitutional amendments are his own and not those of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a press conference in parliament buildings on Monday, the Senate Minority Leader proposed that the amendments be made through a referendum, not later than mid this year.
In an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, he said that despite being a senior member of the party, his remarks should not be seen as a hint of the party's stand on the larger amendment issue.
"I was giving my personal views, not those of ODM party," he said in the interview.
He also sought to make clear the basis behind his Kisii counterpart Sam Ongeri, who during the presser, remarked that Sh10 billion has been allocated to the process by the government.
Orengo stated that Ongeri only echoed President Uhuru Kenyatta's earlier remarks. He also said that the BBI forums being held in the counties are being funded by county monies.
"It is the President who talked about 10B money for the BBI. As to the meetings that are taking place in counties, they are using funds originated from counties on account of public participation," he added.
On Friday, leaders from the Nyanza region are expected to converge in Kisii to discuss the document, with those from Western Kenya expected to converge in Kakamega days later.
