Possibly, if left untreated, it can result to damage of the optic disc of the eye and resultant visual field loss due to lack of communication between the retina and the brain, which can lead to blindness.

There are various symptoms attached to this infection.

Here they are as highlighted by Alan Kozarsky, MD corneal, cataract, and vision correction specialist on webmd.com;

1. Redness in the eyes

This is one amongst the symptoms you need to know. Most people with red eyes think it is a common condition which is not the case. While the condition may be a result of other infections, it could be a clear sign of eye infection. It will be such a nice idea if you talk to a doctor.

2. Nausea or vomiting

This could be a symptom of various diseases. This condition is common in people with headaches, typhoid, malaria and so on. Nevertheless, Kozarsky notes that vomiting may be due to glaucoma in some cases. Don't ignore it but rather do the necessary.

3. Eye pain

This is just more than a clear sign that your eyes are not in good shape. Make an appointment of seeing a doctor and elucidate to him or her about this sign. The doctor will crosscheck you to establish what might be the problem.
