Cliff Nyakeya, the 23-year-old Mathare United rising star, may have not only won midfielder of the year award, but also hearts of female fans.
The midfield maestro, who netted 14 goals and 10 assists in just concluded KPL season, bagged Sh300,000 from betting firm Sportpesa on Thursday evening, attributing his success to hard work.
“I almost gave up playing football to go and study but Chris Omondi took me up in his house when I had no place to stay, he encouraged me and here I am, this is just a stepping stone,” said Nyakeya who netted 14 goals for Mathare United this term.
But back at home, his name was trending at Kitutu Masaba WhatsApp Forum, with crazy female fans asking for his contacts.
Carol Kwamboka said: "Anyone with the boy's contact help me. I have to congratulate him. He's just perfect."
Another fan, Daisy Kerubo added: "He has made us proud. For once Kitutu Masaba has something to celebrate about. Very talented and handsome. My gratitude, he's going places."
Throughout the county, youths lynched the county government for overlooking at emerging talents, with some condemning governor John Nyagarama for inept leadership.
Mr. Nyakeya, who hails from Rigoma ward, Mong'oni, started his football in local clubs before going to Kisumu to try his luck, where Mathare United got hold of him.
