Kisumu Senator Fred Otieno Outa is perhaps one of the most controversial figures in the county’s political circles.
June last year, the senator was whisked away from an angry crowd after a scuffle ensued during a funeral service.
Outa, then Nyando MP had attended the funeral of former legislator Miruka Owuor. Also present was then Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma who had lost to Anyang' Nyong’o in the ODM Kisumu County gubernatorial nominations.
Shortly after Outa took the stage to address the mourners, Ranguma’s supporters started moving forward chanting slogans in support of the former County Chief.
The rowdy youth then started hurling stones and chairs towards Outa and his convoy.
His bodyguards were forced to fire several shots in the air to disperse the rowdy youth before Mr Outa was whisked away.
During the scuffle, the youth hit the Senator's vehicle with stones forcing him to leave the meeting prematurely.
Police moved in, dispersed the angry youth, and restored calm before the funeral service continued.
