A section of Jubilee Party lawmakers allied to Deputy President William Ruto have vowed to protect him over an alleged onslaught by opposition boss Raila Odinga.
Speaking at the parliament buildings on Tuesday, the MPs blamed Odinga for the impeachment motion proposed by his allies against Ruto, vowing to quash any such attempt.
Led by Sirisia lawmaker John Waluke, they as well accused the former Prime Minister of abusing his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta and is now using it to cause havoc in the party.
“President (Uhuru) Kenyatta meant well through the handshake but Mr Odinga came to abuse people and bring impeachment motions," Waluke was quoted by the Nation.
They also implicated the Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in a plot to scatter the party, with an aim of disenfranchising selected individuals.
In a direct message at Raila, Kimilili MP Didymus Barasa said that they will stand up against any of his attempts to take the party down for whatever reasons.
"We are aware of the scheme of ODM, we want to tell them that we are ready to protect our party. We will not allow you (Odinga) to disenfranchise individuals in our party,” said Barasa.
Others at the press conference included Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia), Tecla Tum (Nandi), Caleb Kositant (Soi), Nixon Korir (Langata) and Purity Ngirichi (Kirinyaga).
This comes amid many lamentations from the DP himself who has also blamed Raila for the ongoing purge on graft which he says is targeting him and other selected persons.
