Third Way Alliance party boss Ekuru Aukot has admitted that his party and its Punguza Mizigo referendum initiative remain largely unknown to a good portion of Kenyans.
Aukot on Thursday heeped the blame on the media for allegedly denying his party the much-needed airtime and instead focusing on less beneficial things.
He said that the media has given them a blackout and the attention given it to 'the usual suspects', apparently referring to the leading political figures.
The lawyer who vied for the presidential seat in the 2017 elections claimed that had the media been fair in it is covering, then the entire nation would be educated on Punguza Mizigo.
"I wish our media houses were liberal and gave us fair airtime as they give the usual suspects. Kenyans would be educated of the Punguza Mizigo bill of 2019," he tweeted.
The bill seeks to reduce elective seats and elected individuals holding state offices, as a way of reducing the bloated wage bill.
The party on Wednesday presented its collection of over one million signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissions (IEBC) for scrutiny.
However, the party has poked holes into another referendum bid being pushed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his team, which is, on the other hand, proposing the expansion of the executive and return to the parliamentary governance system.
