Many people take drinking alcohol for fun. However, they are oblivious to the fact that indulgence in alcohol “kills” their body in many ways.
Alcohol is a depressant which slows down body activities and responses in many ways and there are certain things that happen to a person’s body when they take it.
The effects of this usually take time before they start showing up but there are dependent on factors such as a person’s age, metabolism, and weight.
Generally, alcohol takes an hour in a person’s body for it to be broken down.
Dr Clare Morrison who is a general practitioner and published some of her medical work at www.MedExpress.co.uk explained the various processes that a person’s body goes through after drinking alcohol.
First, the effects of alcohol are felt 10 minutes after the first drink. This is after the alcohol is absorbed into the body from the stomach and the small intestines.
After 30-90 minutes, a person will feel the effects of alcohol throughout his/her body. When a person continues to drink alcohol, their bodies will try so much to break down complex alcohol units into simple units.
A huge amount of alcohol taken is broken down in the liver. However, only one unit of alcohol is broken down within an hour.
When the liver is overpowered, the feeling of being drunk will kick in. Alcohol concentration becomes high in the blood and that’s when someone becomes drunk.
He becomes weak and loses common responses in his body, like balance.
