Led by Jubilee Party Deputy Chair David Murathe, the leaders are now claiming that they are ready to relay the debt they owe the Luhya community.

Speaking on Wednesday, Murathe said that Jubilee Party is ready to support Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi in the much anticipated race.

Murathe urged the community to unite under one leader and approach them (Jubilee) for support.

"Jubilee won because we came together. We united 13 parties. Make one party and come to us. If we see that, we shall come and unite with you," he was quoted by the Standard.

The leaders were part of others who attended the Maragoli Cultural Festival in Mbale, Vihiga County.

Former Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando Wa Kabando termed Mudavadi a selfless leader, adding that the Western region has repeatedly backed Central Kenya.

He added that the former Deputy Prime Minister even lost his seat in 2002 for supporting a candidate from the region, and is justified to get a backing in return.

“Musalia is a selfless man. If you go to Mukureini, you will find that former Minister Joseph Otiende said we must have a hospital in the area.

"Eugene Wamalwa stood by Mwai Kibaki. Musalia Mudavadi lost his parliament seat in 2002 because he supported us,” he said.

The declaration comes barely two weeks after Mudavadi held talks with a section of former Central Kenya lawmakers at his Riverside Estate home in Nairobi.

The declaration seems to throw Deputy President William Ruto under the bus, after the Central Kenya region vowed to wholly back him in 2022 during the 2017 campaign period.
