President Uhuru Kenyatta has stopped the ongoing evictions from Mau Forest amid intrigues within his Jubilee party.

Politicians allied to DP William Ruto led onslaught against own government, further igniting debate on the unity within the party.

"The president I campaigned for when others were swearing in themselves has not changed. If he had, then I'd have known," lamented Kipchumba Murkomen.

The second phase of evictions were set to commence this week after a week of confrontation.

But an insider who spoke in confidence said Uhuru stopped the exercise on Monday but did not issue further instructions.

"I can say without a doubt that the President has stopped the exercise. It seems that he could not withstand the political heat.

"Actually, he was on a mood meaning that he accepted reluctantly. He did not give further directives," said the source.

At the same time, protests erupted in Narok as leaders called for prosecution of of people who reportedly sold the Mau Forest land.

Over 5,000 people mainly from Kipsigis community were evicted in the first phase as Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya stood his ground.
