Opposition leader Raila Odinga has found himself in trouble with Deputy President William Ruto, days after the ODM party leader and former Prime Minister agreed to work with Ruto's boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The two agreed to burry their political differences and work together from March 9, 2018, few months after a controversial 2017 presidential election.
However, according to Ruto, Raila's entrance to the ruling Jubilee Party in which he (Ruto) is the deputy, is not welcomed.
Citing the March 9, Uhuru-Raila handshake, Ruto said Raila is plotting to wreck the party and divide its leaders ahead of 2022 general elections when he will be seeking to succeed Kenyatta.
Speaking in Majaoni, Kisauni, Mombasa, Ruto said ODM used to summon him when he was still a member, the way Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori are being summoned for supporting him.
“I was in ODM ...that is where they started summoning me like what they are doing to Jumwa and Dori. They ensured that I left the party and even took me to court. That is what they want to bring in Jubilee but I want to tell them that will not happen,” Ruto said adding that Odinga was using handshake "to bring conmanship, confusion and hypocrisy to Jubilee".
The DP indicated Odinga's plan is to see him leave Jubilee “the way they did way back when I was in ODM” but he will not succeed.
"The handshake is not a licence for you to bring confusion, propaganda and conmnaship into our party. If they have come to divide Jubilee and the government, we are telling them that we are alert and we know what you are up to,” he told Odinga.
Flanked by several leaders from Coast including those in ODM and Wiper Democratic Movement, Ruto issued 3,000 tittle deeds to residents of Majaoni Settlement Scheme on Sunday.
