Political analyst Ambrose Weda has faulted the ruling Jubilee Party’s initial claim that it did not front a candidate for the Migori Senatorial race out of goodwill.

The party through Secretary General Raphael Tuju had announced that it wouldn't front a candidate in the by-election out of goodwill, resulting from opposition leader Raila Odinga’s March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, speaking on KBC English Service on Wednesday, Weda noted that the President Kenyatta-led block was instead avoiding a terrible humiliation in the hands of the Orange party.

He added that the South Nyanza region remains Raila’s bedrock, and any attempts by outsiders to nab the seat will only lead to an embarrassing and humiliating defeat.

‘’That region remains Baba’s (Raila’s) place. With or without handshake the Jubilee Party was not going to front a candidate.

''The best thing to justify Jubilee’s fear would be to say that they are leaving it for ODM in the spirit of the truce,’’ he said.

ODM has since fronted former Cabinet Minister Ochillo Ayacko to defend the seat initially held by the late Ben Oluoch Okello, another ODM member.

The race has as well attracted 4 other candidates, after one dropped his bid late last week.

The much anticipated by-election is set for October 8.
