The referendum debate was introduced by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga after his 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mboko, a close ally of the former Prime Minister, now says that the referendum will come immediately after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) hands in its report.

She made the remarks during the burial of former MP Oduya Oprong', in Amagoro, also attended by Raila, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and Ford Kenya party chief Moses Wetangula.

The leaders, however, avoided speaking on political matters, with the KANU party leader weighing in on the fight agsisnt corruption and early politicking ahead of the 2022 elections.

“We fully support the ongoing war on corruption and the push for an inclusive government. However, we are against early campaigns for 2022,” he was quoted by the Standard.

Similar remarks were made by the former Premier, who assured Kenyans of the fruits of the war against corruption soon.

“Very soon Kenyans will see what we mean when we say we want to root out corruption in the country," said Raila.

The BBI team was compiled by Uhuru and Raila as an extension of their bid to iron out recurrent national shortcomings revolving around political injustices and tribal divisions.
