People encounter smelly urine on some occasions in their lives. This shows that there is something amiss in your body. It could be as a result of eating certain foods, medications or even living different lifestyles. Some of the reasons might be life threatening and need doctors intervention while others can be temporary.
Your urine will be smelly due to the following;
1. Dehydration
Not taking enough water could lead to smelly urine. This is because there is decreased water in the urine produced compared to the waste products excreted and hence the smell. You might also need to drink more water when your urine colour is either amber- or honey-coloured, or even a dark orange as this shows you are dehydrated.
2. Diabetes
People suffering from diabetes can notice changes with their pee's smell. This is because the body releases ketones into the urine when the blood sugar level is high and this makes them responsible for the bad smell of the urine.
3. Urinary tract infection
This occurs when bacteria infect your urinary tract through the urethra and then begin to multiply. The pee that has a strong ammonia smell or foul smell is often the first indication that you have a Urinary Tract Infection. That bacteria is also responsible for cloudy or bloody urine and results in a burning sensation while peeing.
