Patrick Mwangi shocked many when he was caught exhuming the body of his father who was buried 19 years ago at Maseno village in Subukia, Nakuru County.

Mwangi had disclosed to his relatives that he was after his father’s bones after a man in Rumuruti, Laikipia asked for them.

Mwangi said that the man requested for the bones in order to make him rich and for his tomatoes agribusiness to be successful.

Mwangi’s aunt, Teresia Mumbi, said she was shocked when she caught Mwangi digging the grave early in the morning.

“I had woken up and as usual, I walked around the compound to ensure that things were well. I was surprised to see a heap of fresh soil near my late in-law’s grave. Upon moving closer, I saw Mwangi inside with a jembe and he was busy digging deeper,” said Mumbi.

Area chief Peter Muigai said Mwangi who stays at his parents’ home together with his elder brother and two other siblings had attempted to exhume his father’s remain in September but was stopped.

Muigai said that Mwangi’s business at that time was not doing well and had been advised by a man in Rumuruti to bring his father’s bones for the business to be a success.

“I was called when his relatives reported that he had started digging up the grave. I came around and spent some good time with him and he said that his business was in bad shape and needed a good change.”

“He did not disclose who had sent him to look for his father’s skeleton but only said the person is in Rumuruti,” noted Muigai.

Nakuru Police Commander Stephen Matu said anyone who wants to exhume a body should first seek permission from the court.
