"Three suspects found repackaging expired rice were today arrested by a multi-agency team and over 1,500 bags (each 50kgs) of assorted rice brands confiscated in Kamukunji. In May this year, two suspects were arrested after they were found repackaging expired rice in a go-down in Kariobangi South.
John Mbugua and Jeremiah Kuria were arrested by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after a tip-off from the members of the public.
The sleuths unearthed a scheme where the rice was being repackaged into new bags bearing expiry dates from June 2019 to 2021 with an aim of deceiving unsuspecting buyers.
The duo was released on a Sh300,000 bond after denying the charges.
