The historical longstanding political rivalry and perceived hostility between Mt Kenya and Nyanza is expected to play a big role in the coming campaigns when NASA's Raila Odinga and Jubilee's Uhuru Kenyatta lock horns for the presidency.
A lost of hostility is expected in nine regions where it is perceived the leaders have respective huge following.
With 70 days left to the polls, the two leading candidates are yet to take their campaigns in these regions.
The areas are:
Kisumu
Migori
Siaya
Homabay
Nyandarua
Nyeri
Kiambu
Kirinyaga
Muranga
Apart from attending State functions in Kisumu, President Kenyatta has not been to Nyanza on an official vote hunting mission.
SImilarly, Raila has attended functions in Central Kenya, including the recent burial of Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
However, the NASA leader has not been to the region on an official campaign mission.
“Raila and Uhuru have colonised their tribes, they will easily support their own. Raila does not expect votes in Mt Kenya region and Uhuru, on the other hand, does not expect any votes in Luo Nyanza,” says Prof Kisiang'ani.
“Uhuru is scared, what goes on in his mind is Luos supported his brother and his community never supported Raila in 2013,” he said.
