The two, Nicholas Mwirigi Mithika and Paul Murithi Njeru, are teachers at Little Angels Academy in Isiolo. They were arrested on Tuesday after the minor identified them.

Mithika and Njeru appeared before Isiolo Resident Magistrate Joan Irura, in a courtroom full of pupils and parents, where they were accused of defiling the girl on numerous occasions since the beginning of the month.

The prosecution said the suspects used to drug the victim to make her lose consciousness before engaging in indecent acts with the minor.

“You intentionally administered a substance with intent to stupefy her before engaging in sex with her,” read the charge sheet.

The girl said she would faint whenever the teachers called her and on regaining consciousness, she would find herself naked.

She said the youthful teachers used to summon her in the evening as other pupils went home after which they would commit the offence.

The girl's father who also testified said his daughter was found at an unknown location having been drugged and defiled. Medical reports confirmed the same.

Jalson Makori, the Senior Prosecution Counsel, requested that the suspects be denied bail for further investigations to be carried out. He also feared the accused would interfere with the probe if they were freed.

Magistrate Irura granted the plea saying, “Taking into consideration that there is tension, which even has been seen in court today, the safety of the accused is not guaranteed. For that reason, the court treats the reasons raised as compelling ones.”

On Tuesday, the teachers escaped death after police rescued them from a mob that was baying for their blood. The 24-year-old Njeru and his 26-year-old accomplice will be remanded at the Isiolo police station for seven days.
