Traders at the Nakuru Wakulima Market have lauded a three-day biometric NHIF registration exercise organized by Nakuru politician and businessman Hezron Manyara.
Addressing media, the traders led by their coordinator Mr. Joseph Kibe said the exercise is paramount as it will help address challenges they have been facing whenever one of them falls sick.
“We must commend the exercise as traders. We have been suffering whenever one of us falls sick by contributing but with the NHIF card we are assured that the burden is at ease,” said Kibe.
Sentiments echoed by the market traders’ welfare chairman Gedion Gitahi who said the move to have the NHIF officers come to the Market was key in reaching out to the busy business women.
“We are 400 traders in this market and we hope by the end of the three days we shall have registered 2500 or even all of them,” said Gitahi.
Ruth Muthoni from NHIF Nakuru said they decided to visit the market since most traders are always busy.
According to Ms Muthoni, they are doing both new registrations for the national health insurance as well as bio-metric registration for members.
“We are doing both new registrations and biometric for our members. The exercise is ongoing and the turnout is good,” she said.
