Police officers in Kisii County on Thursday arrested an elected Kisii MCA who had been allegedly selling illicit liquor.
Kisii police commander Martin Kibet confirmed the arrest of Nyatieko ward MCA Vincent Gitene Onyando saying that his officers were working on a tip-off from locals.
"Our officers stormed the MCA's residence and apprehended him after a tip-off from locals that the ward rep has been selling illicit liquor. Over 50 liters of illicit liquor was recovered in his house," said Kibet.
Mr Kibet said the MCA tried to resist arrest but, the armed officers frog-marched him and took him to Kisii Central police station.
"Leaders should not use their position in government to engage in illegal businesses. Onyando despite that he was released on a police bond he will be charged in court for selling illicit brew contrary to the law," he added.
The commander lauded locals for informing police about the MCAs dubious dealings saying the crackdown on illicit brews will continue.
"Police are working around the clock to weed out illicit brew makers, sellers and distributors. Locals should venture into legal businesses," he noted. Kibet warned politicians against undermining the work of police officers.
