The four were arrested following an operation conducted at Pioneer and Elgon View estates on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Confirming the arrests, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Agustine Nthumbi said over 20,000 sim cards and 300 mobile phones were also found in the suspect's houses during the operation.

Addressing a media briefing in Eldoret, Nthumbi said they have been tracking the suspects for a long time now.

"The four suspects are involved in cybercrime where they did an illegal sim swap and sim card registration in a room in the two estates," said Nthumbi.

He noted that the suspects have been conning unsuspecting members of the public on the pretence of being workers of telecommunications companies with university and college students being their main targets.

"We suspect they get information from registers of agencies such as Registrar of persons and the IEBC where they have names of Kenyans and their identification card numbers," noted the Police Commander.

The suspects, two men and two women are expected to be transported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head office in Nairobi to help in further investigations.
