The Governor has largely been mentioned in the killing of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno three weeks ago.

According to the Standard, the prosecution intends to oppose his bail request, under fear that he might interfere with the case and witnesses once out.

Confirming the claims, his lawyer Cliff Ombeta has, however, termed the same as unrealistic, maintaining that the county chief is entitled to bail.

"Bail is his (Obado's) constitutional right. We will fight for it. No one can take it away," he told the Standard on Sunday.

Obado has spent three days in police cells, following his arrest on Friday.

This followed a grilling session with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi.

According to Ombeta, however, both the defence side and the Governor are ready for the court proceedings

“We are ready to see what they bring. The governor is doing well and in good spirits," he is further quoted.

Also set to be arraigned are a number of Obado's associates also linked to the murder, including his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Oduor.

Some of his close associates are reported to have confided in the police and named him as the main suspect.
