Muthama said the party will support Julius Mawathe whose election was nullified by the Supreme Court.

According to Muthama, the party has no plans to endorse any other candidate in the by-election.

“We have our candidate, Mr. Mawathe and we will support him to retain the seat,” Muthama said.

He addressed the press in Embakasi South on Monday.

Muthama rubbished claims that the party will pick another candidate for the by-election.

He said Wiper will soon meet to deliberate on the by-election.

Wiper party Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui confirmed that Mawathe remains the party’s candidate in the by-election.

Mbui said the party will do everything to ensure the former MP retains the seat.

Last week, Jubilee party announced that it will not field any candidate in the Embakasi South by-election.

The party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju said the decision was reached after consultations based on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM chief Raila Odinga's handshake.

The Embakasi South parliamentary seat was declared vacant following the Supreme Court ruling which nullified the election on grounds that it was not free and fair.

The election petition had been filed by the constituency's former MP Irshad Sumra of ODM party.
