Politicians, friends and locals on Wednesday came together in Eldoret town for a fundraiser to help the family of the late Benjamin Kiplimo.
Kiplimo was the owner of Silverline hotel that was an epicentre for the 2017 gubernatorial contest between governor Jackson Mandago and billionaire businessman Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich popularly known as Buzeki.
Governor Mandago together with Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi led the fundraiser that saw over Sh6.6 million collected.
Mandago and Sudi gave Sh1 million each with Kesses MP Dr Swarup Mishra and his Nandi Hills counterpart Alfred Keter giving Sh500,000 each.
Billionaire businessman David Lagat better known as DL gave Sh200,000 while Eldoret meat suppliers presented Sh700,000 cash. Silverline hotel staff gave Sh450 and Nandi governor Stephen Sang who also attended the fundraiser gave Sh100,000.
Kiplimo died last week following a tragic road accident at Annex along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.
His body is expected to be moved from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret town on Friday to his rural home in Ngeria, Kesses constituency for burial scheduled for Saturday.
