He has always been able to bounce back throughout his political tenure, with the most popular scenarios being his ability to retain his political relevance despite four losses in the presidential contest.

The most popular comeback was in 1994, when he was then the Lang’ata lawmaker and when he couldn’t make it to the helm of the opposition’s Ford-Kenya Party, Raila successfully made a daredevil stunt.

This followed the death of his father and former Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who headed the party which he had as well founded after the break of the initial FORD party, with the other portion being named Ford Asili led by Kenneth Matiba.

Raila unsuccessfully vied for the Chairman slot and when he lost it to Kijana Wamalwa, he walked out in protest.

Soon after he formed the National Development Party (NDP), resigned from the post he had won on the Ford-Kenya ticket and went ahead to defend the post on his new party.

It was after this that Raila became nationally known and soon after moved in to secure his late father’s seat at the helm of Luo Nyanza politics before his first unsuccessful presidential shot 3 years later.
