Speaking to the Standard on phone Thursday, the Bungoma Senator said that he has received a major endorsement from his party to go for the top seat.

He held that he is very confident of beating among others, Deputy President William Ruto to emerge President Uhuru Kenyatta's successor.

The Senator said that he will spend the remaining time to serve his people while mobilizing resources for the major quest.

“I want to mobilise resources towards this quest and I am confident of clinching the seat. For now, however, I want to spend the remaining two years serving the people,” he told the paper.

This, however, comes at a time when his fellow Western Kenya leader and Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi has also announced a similar bid.

Mudavadi has gone ahead to receive major enforcements from among others former Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando Wa Kabando and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli.

This raises questions on whether Wetangula will have sufficient backing to push on.

He has, however, expressed his readiness to go it alone in the instance that none joins his camp.

Ford Kenya was part of the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition whose flag bearer and opposition leader Raila Odinga lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 polls.
