Nyamira County should brace itself for a tight gubernatorial race in 2022 as former senator Kennedy Mong’are Okong'o plans a major comeback in active politics.
Mong’are told Hivisasa exclusively that he is the best choice of the governor for Nyamira because he understands the challenges of the area and has plans to make locals’ lives better.
“I am the only most experienced person to take over as the next governor of Nyamira,” he stated adding that he understands devolution better having been the first county senator.
Thus, he will use his experience in empowering Nyamira people economically and socially.
To kick-start his bid to change the lives of the people, he noted that he will not embark on active oversight role on the county government of Nyamira.
The ex-senator cited that the county led by Governor John Nyagarama has failed in its key mandate of service delivery to the people of Nyamira.
He also said that his successor Senator Okongo Omogeni has failed in playing his oversight role on the county because he and Nyagarama were elected on ODM tickets.
“In the next two months, I am going to work heavily on the oversight role because there is no oversight being done now because the current senator and governor both come from ODM,” he said.
“In a few days, you are going to see a lot of work. I am going to engage the county government in activism; I am going to take legal action on some things in the county for instance; Nyamira County is supposed to have a workforce of 1,900. They have hit 4,500.”
The National Liberal Party leader said he does not mind partnering with a coalition come 2022.
