There has been a considerable decline in the number of projects Deputy President William Ruto has been launching recently.
It can be attributed to the political activities that have seemingly slowed down the indefatigable Ruto.
The appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’I as the chairperson of National Development Implementation and Communication Committee as well as anti-Ruto sentiments from a section of Jubilee affiliated MPs are some hurdles put in Ruto’s path to the presidency.
It is Uhuru’s last term as the president, and, barring any constitutional changes, he intends to leave a legacy. The legacy is in the form of Big Four Agenda, which involves food, manufacturing, affordable housing and affordable healthcare.
At the end of his term as president, legacy or not, it won’t matter much to Uhuru Kenyatta. As such, the burden of this legacy solely lies on DP Ruto’s shoulders. The main reason is that he has declared his intention to succeed his boss come 2022.
DP Ruto will use Uhuru’s legacy as a campaign strategy, where he will tell the voters what they have done for them and what he intends to continue. Basically, if the Big Four Agenda fails, the burden will be heavy on Ruto’s shoulders.
Consequently, the person who should be fighting more for the projects should be DP Ruto.
Uhuru’s legacy will act as a stepping stone to the presidency since they will prove of what the current president has done, his will be merely a continuation of the same project.
