Winnie Odinga, the youngest daughter to opposition chief Raila Odinga, on Friday raised concerns about the future of Ford Kenya party, whose leadership is facing tribulations.
Ford Kenya, one of the oldest existing party in Kenya, was formed in 1990 by Winnie's grandfather Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Former Vice President Michael Wamalwa took over upon the death of Oginga in 1994.
And the decision by Ford Kenya disciplinary committee to summon deputy party leader and former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale, precipitated Winnie to mock him.
"Party leader -> scamDaddy. DPL -> Defected. I'm afraid the lion my grandfather birthed has finally rested," write Winnie in reference to Khalwale's tribulations.
Dr Khalwale has often mocked Winnie's father, Raila Odinga, over what he calls 'imminent death' of ODM party. Ford Kenya party disciplinary committee has written to Khalwale, accusing him of undermining her leadership.
“Due to you conduct, Ford-Kenya has diminished generally in popularity and influence and that the party’s activity in and around Kakamega under your leadership as the deputy leader have reduced,” Mr Wanyonyi said in his show cause letter to Dr Khalwale.
He added: ”Should you fail to respond to this letter by Tuesday May 21, 2019, this committee shall draw relevant inference from your conduct and proceed to conclude this matter without further reference to you.”
Also, the party leader Moses Wetangula, is facing allegations of facilitating fake gold business. On Thursday, DCI George Kinoti reported that he will appear for grilling.
“He is a person of interest and we shall be interrogating him and all others mentioned to determine their degree of involvement,” said Mr Kinoti.
However, through his personal assistant Chris Mandu, Wetangula has dismissed the allegations, adding that he's also a victim of the scam that saw a Saudi Royal losing over Sh250 million.
“It’s very unfortunate that some people are now trying to politicise the whole matter in which the senator lost huge amounts of money,” Mr Mandu said.
