Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa has slammed his Jubilee Party colleague and Nominated MP Maina Kamanda for supporting a rival candidate in the upcoming Kibra parliamentary by-election.
Kamanda on Thursday threw his weight behind Imran Okoth of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and abandoned McDonald Mariga who is the Jubilee's flag bearer in the November 7 polls.
Ichung'wa said Kamanda's endorsement was not surprising since it was well known that he has always been a sympathizer of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
"Kamanda is just being true to himself and vindicating what we have always said that he is an ODM and Raila sympathizer," he said as quoted by Saturday Nation.
The Kikuyu MP asked Kamanda to step aside and join the opposition so Jubilee can nominate another person who deserves the seat.
"Let him do the honorable thing and leave Jubilee for ODM and relinquish our nomination slot for deserving youth, woman or people with disabilities. ODM can nominate him," he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed on Friday by Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Ngirici who accused Kamanda of defying Jubilee party leader Uhuru Kenyatta by backing a rival candidate.
"He has abused the privilege of being a nominated MP that we gave him as Jubilee Party. If he no longer holds the ideology of the ruling party then he should resign and join the opposition. His position can be given to other deserving leaders,” Ngirici said during a function in Taita Taveta County.
