A remorseful Molo Member of Parliament Kimani Kuria has vowed to keep off alcohol days after footage of him drunk in an anti-alcohol event left Kenyans talking.
Speaking on Sunday in his constituency, the first time legislator called on his constituents to forgive him and to let bygones to be bygones, making a solemn promise to focus on working for the people.
He blamed the embarrassing incident on the devil and temptations.
"Temptations are meant for every human being and are brought about by Satan and everyone can fall into temptations and I vow not to go back to such behaviour again. It is time to work for the mwananchi. It is time to move on," the 30-year-old MP said according to a report by K24 Television.
The MP's decision to attend a meeting while drunk angered Molo residents who asked for him to be removed from the meeting, saying his unbecoming behaviour was setting a bad example to the youth.
Elburgon, which is in Molo Constituency, has been grappling with the menace of the consumption of illicit brews, prompting a campaign to sensitise residents on the dangers of illicit brews.
Kuria's drunk appearance, some residents warned, had the potential of undermining progress to be made on the war against illicit liquors.
