Despite the entry of other products, Kalenjins still shop for these products, asking especially for them using the brand name of another product.

Some of these products include;

Omo

It never registers to the mind of a Kalenjin shopper that Omo is a brand rather than a product. Any washing powder is often referred to as Omo. Be it toss, or Ariel, a Kalenjin will always ask for Omo.

Kiwi

The ultimate shoe polish is Kiwi. Many shoppers always are on the lookout for this product. It is no different for the Kalenjin. In fact, in their shopping lists, they don’t write shoe polish, but rather Kiwi.

Colgate

A typical Kalenjin doesn’t know any other toothpaste other than Colgate. Many don’t know that it is called toothpaste and will ask the shopkeeper to give them Colgate.

Blue band

For the privileged, or that once in a lifetime opportunity, the blue band is just a blue band. Nobody recognizes other margarine brands but the blue band.

Quencher

Before, it used to be a Christmas affair. Quencher would be bought in large quantities to last the entire festive period. It was always orange. And it was always known as quencher.
