The group which was nabbed on Saturday night near Migori County was also reportedly using outlawed fishing gear not compliant with the Kenyan laws.

Confirming the arrests, Muhuru Beach Management Unit Chairman Tobias Mragire said that they were nabbed in a crackdown targeting illegal fishermen.

He noted that they are targeting more Tanzanians in a retaliatory move, barely two weeks after Tanzanian forces arrested 36 Kenyan fishermen over alleged trespassing.

He warned that the crackdown will continue to nab Tanzanians who occasionally cross into Kenyan waters after the nation launched an offensive on Kenyans, reports the Citizen Digital.

He added that the group which is being held at Bamgot Beach in Nyatike will be arraigned on Monday to face charges of trespassing into the nation.

In the earlier arrest, Tanzania demanded Sh1.3 million for the release of the 36 fishermen, 3 of whom were primary school pupils and 3 others students.

Tanzania also demanded Ksh.200, 000 for the ten boats impounded.
