Police officers in Mandera have launched investigations into an incident where a police reservist was allegedly shot dead by a colleague.
Confirming the shooting and killing incident, Mandera County Police boss Jeremiah Kosiom revealed that the killer reservist was already in their custody and is being interrogated.
Reports indicate the killer reservist, Mohamed Billow Sheikh, was with other three officers on the fateful Monday evening when the tragic incident occurred.
“Ahmed Shukri Bulle reported to us that a fellow police reservist had allegedly killed himself at the Greenview estate within Mandera town as they were waiting for their patrol vehicle,” Kosiom told journalists.
It is then that regular police were dispatched to pick Abdiraham Abbas Adow, the shooting victim who later succumbed to gunshot wounds just upon arrival at Mandera County Referral Hospital.
Amid the developments, Kosiom has refuted claims that the reservist shot himself.
“Our own investigations have revealed the deceased man never shot himself as alleged. It is a bullet discharged from a different gun that fatally injured him leading to his death,” Kosiom added as he dismissed the previous reports indicating victim had turned his gun and shot himself.
