Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor has assured Garissa and North Eastern residents that the polio vaccination being administered to children is safe.
Noor wants residents to ignore rumours that the vaccine is harmful.
Speaking in Ijara Town on Monday, Noor asked mothers to present their children aged below five years for the polio vaccination jabs.
The MP denied reports that the vaccine is part of the family planning campaign.
“The polio vaccine is safe and I urge mothers to present their children for the immunization,” she said.
The MP asked critics to stop misleading locals and Kenyans.
She said that the government cannot administer a harmful vaccine to its citizens.
Noor said that the vaccine must be taken seriously owing to the fact that the region neighbours Somalia and there are massive movements of people.
The polio vaccine was launched in Garissa on Saturday by Health CS Sicily Kariuki.
