Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri has called upon the Abagusii community to maintain its stand behind Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga.
The region has been one of the strongholds of the former Prime Minister in his recent presidential bids, with Ongeri calling for a repeat of the same in future polls.
He urged the community to once again rally behind Raila in the approaching 2022 general elections, saying that Raila is still young politically and deserves their backing.
Ongeri who served as Minister of Education under Raila in the Grand Coalition Government and is in the office on an ODM ticket argued that he has done a lot for the nation and needs to be rewarded.
"He is still young politically and nothing will stop him from ascending to power. Raila is the reason we are enjoying relative peace in the country and we are going to stand by him by all means,” the elderly lawmaker was quoted by the Standard.
Ongeri spoke during the burial of Dr David Ombati in Kisii, a function also attended by the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure among other leaders.
Ombati was the doctor to Raila's father and founding Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who died of breathing difficulties at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu in 1994.
However, Raila whose four previous bids have been futile has remained silent on his 2022 plans, leaving Kenyans and his critics from Deputy President William Ruto's quarters in anxiety.
