Conflict is brewing between Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nakuru campus and Nakuru county government over an alleged grabbed parcel of land.
According to the KMTC students who on Tuesday held demonstrations in the streets of Nakuru town up to Governor’s office seeking address, the alleged grabbed parcel of land was meant for sporting activities.
Addressing media outside the Governor’s office, the KMTC students led by Abdulaye Farah said they were shocked to see some projects come up at the facility without their knowledge.
They vowed to ensure the parcel of land is returned to the institution for the benefit of the students.
“We want the governor to tell us which criteria were used to grab the land that was meant for a student as far as sports is concerned,” said Farah.
The sentiments echoed by Mercy Akong’o, another who said that their only saviour in the matter is Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
They stated that they will not relent in advocating their rights as students of KMTC Nakuru campus.
“We are just praying that this matter is addressed once and for all,” she said.
Addressing the media over the Matter, Nakuru County Executive for Health Dr Gichuki Kariuki refuted claims of land grabbed as raised by the KMTC students.
According to the CEC, the 23-hectare-piece of land that accommodates both the Nakuru level 5 Hospital and the KMTC is under one title.
Kariuki said the parcel of land in question has been set aside by the county government in collaboration with the National government for a Radiotherapy facility.
“I wish to let you know that all the land where the hospital stands and also the KMTC has one title. The county in collaboration with National government is setting up a Radiotherapy facility and therefore there is no land that has been grabbed as all stakeholders were involved” he said Dr.Gichuki.
The CEC says already the National government has tendered and the contractor is on site for the project.
