Drama was witnessed at Mabatini area near Moi University on Wednesday morning after a couple was thrown out half naked by a landlord for failing to pay rent.
James Kiplagat, the no-nonsense landlord had gone around collecting July's rent when he knocked on the couple's door.
According to Kiplagat, the two have been evading to pay rent.
The students who were still sleeping were taken by surprise as they did not expect that it could be the landlord knocking on the door. The angry Kiplagat did not give them time to dress as he threw them out as they were - the male student wearing only a short and the lady in a night dress.
"I have been calling them for the last one month but they were not picking my calls. So far they owe me Sh6,000 for this and the previous month. I am no longer going to tolerate them," Kiplagat said as he locked the house.
"I have tolerated them long enough and they are taking advantage of me. They will not access this room until the day they will settle the rent. This is business and my main source of income," he added.
Neighbours tried to beg the landlord to allow the students to take their clothes and dress up but he gave them a deaf ear.
Some of the neighbours however blamed the two students for taking advantage of the landlord. Most of them described him as a humble and understanding person.
"Kiplagat is usually very understanding. I am sure if they could have talked to him instead of evading to pay, he could have understood them. Their fault is that they kept on evading to pay," Sharon Wambui, a tenant stated.
The embarrassed students were accommodated by their friends who also live in the same apartments.
