Renowned lawyer and socio-political commentator Steve Ogolla has taken issue with reports that John Wambua, the husband of Mariam Kighenda, pursued an insurance claim as the bodies of his wife and daughter lay deep in the Likoni channel waters.
Writing on Twitter on Tuesday, the lawyer wondered how Mr Wambua had the presence of mind and mental strength to pursue the claim, saying that the pursuit raises eyebrows.
The city lawyer appeared to suggest that John Wambua should at least have waited for the bodies of his loved ones to be retrieved first.
"IT'S CURIOUS and demoralizing to learn that John Wambua had the presence of mind, and emotional stamina to pursue insurance claim while the bodies of his wife/mom and daughter lay in the darkest and deepest waters of Likoni Channel. We can't live like that, " Steve Ogolla's tweet read.
Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu perished after their car rolled back and plunged into the Likoni Channel.
Efforts to rescue them before the car went under the water were not successful.
The bodies of the 2 were recovered by a multiagency team days after the sinking incident.
Controversy continues to stalk how long the car stayed afloat before sinking with some saying that it stayed above water for up to 20 minutes.
