Mr Itumbi was arrested earlier this month with detectives linking him to the controversial letter which caused confusions in government for a couple of days.

Mr Itumbi has been charged with the offence of making a false document without authority contrary to section 357 of the penal code at a Nairobi court.

The charge sheet reads that on June 20, 2019, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, Dennis Njue Itumbi made a document with a letter dated May 30, 2019, purporting to be a genuine document made by a cabinet secretary, a fact he knew to be false.

In the second count, Itumbi, who now works for the Deputy President William Ruto in the communication department has been charged with programming mobile phone contrary to the section 84G of the Kenya Information and Communications Act.

“On the 30th day of June 2019, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya intentionally not being a manufacturer of a mobile phone, you interfered with the operation of mobile phone Make Samsung Note 9 Dark grey dual SIM IMEI 352455/10/030/824/6, 352456/10/03824/4," reads the charge sheet.

Itumbi was released on Sh100, 000 cash bail. Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot set August 5th as the date for the mention of the case.

On Sunday, Deputy President William Ruto declined to comment on the alleged assassination, arguing that the matter was between him and the president.

"The matter that you have asked is something I have discussed with my boss and it is not for public discussion," he answered.

The letter, which has since been dismissed as fake, claimed that Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Sicilly Kariuki, Joe Mucheru and James Macharia were among those plotting to eliminate Ruto.
