A woman was on Friday arraigned before a Kiambu court over claims of murdering her house help for allegedly sleeping with her (the accused) husband.
Sarafina Wanjiku was arraigned before Limuru Principal Magistrate Sandra Ogot, who heard that she murdered one Njoki, accusing her of sleeping with her (Sarafina) husband.
The crime is said to have been done at 45-year-old Sarafina's house in Githirioni Village on November 28.
The court was told that the accused severally stabbed the deceased (20) while accusing her of having sex with her husband, resulting in injuries that saw her lose her life.
The magistrate ordered that mental examination be carried out on the accused, after which she will once again be presented in court to take a plea.
She also allowed the prosecution to hold the accused for 14 days while concluding the ongoing investigations.
She is expected back in court on December 16.
If found guilty, the woman might be sentenced to hang, according to the section 204 of the penal code, given that the crime lands among capital offenses as per the Kenyan law.
The Supreme Court in 2017 abolished death row but did not abolish it, which has resulted in some murder convicts being slapped with a life sentence.
