Embattled Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has returned to her office after 13 months out.
However, her return in office was dramatic as she was accompanied by a group of people cheering her on.
It is alleged that her return was schemed by a few MCAs from the minority side without consulting with the house leadership.
Elachi, who got removed from office on September 10, 2019, held a press conference during her comeback.
She addressed a number of issues including demand for respect from Jubilee Party leaders. She also vowed to crack down on illegal foreign trips by MCAs.
“Do not allow any member of the Nairobi County Assembly to travel outside the country without the signature of the Speaker, because that is what they are using to intimidate the members,” said Elachi as quoted by K24 Digital.
In the statement, Elachi accused Nairobi MCAs for lack of respect, manipulations and intimidating other leaders.
In May, Elachi was reinstated by the Employment and Labor Relations Court.
Justice Maureen Onyango ruled in her favour noting that the impeachment process had a lot of flaws.
Members of the Nairobi County Assembly led by their majority leader Abdi Guyo had called for her ouster citing that they had lost hope in her leadership.
